Not much to say about the installation process:
- Easy
- Straight Forward
- It worked
This is one of the best installation processes I’ve used on any platform; open source or commercial.
As for setup, I figure I must be over-thinking this whole thing. Having developed user interfaces on various systems for various industries, I find myself making assumptions and drawing conclusions that don’t seem to pan out within Wordpress. I don’t think it’s Wordpress that needs to change, it’s just my thought process.
After a few hours of frustration, I actually read part of the setup manual, took a dinner break and then attempted the setup with a new frame of mind: Don’t assume, don’t think! Read the pages, read the manual. Follow directions!
Well, that did the trick. The setup went a whole lot smoother, things seems to be in a (somewhat) logical pattern and I got through it in short order.
Within an hour I had categories, a few dummy posts, and OK attempt at an ABOUT page, and I even changed things to use custom pretty URLs.
Not bad all in all. Not bad at all. This will be a fun exercise over the course of the next few months as I expand and tweak this site. It think I’ll tackle the permalink issue tomorrow.
What kind of issues did you have with your installation and setup?
